What is it?
This summer, some St. Louisans will have a chance to sing at the Muny -- not exactly on stage, but close to it -- with our Muny Karaoke contest. Sponsored by the Muny and the Post-Dispatch, the contest will take place in two parts: first at the outdoor theater in Forest Park, then online at STLtoday.com.
How do I enter?
On three evenings before the show, theatergoers will be invited to perform show tunes at the Muny Karaoke booth at Lichtenstein Plaza, at the top of the theater behind the free seats. Singers will be able to choose from a selection of show tunes. We'll shoot video of each contestant.
Our panel of judges will choose the top videos to post on STLtoday.com.
You can vote on the finalists and >see the ones that didn't make the cut.
Are there prizes?
Yes. Each week's winner will receive a package of Muny vouchers, good for four tickets to the show of his or her choice.
After the three weekly winners have been chosen, they will compete against one another. That grand-prize winner will receive a theater party on the last night of the Muny season. The party includes a backstage tour, dinner before the show at the Culver Pavilion and an autographed copy of "The Muny: Songs of St. Louis Summers" by Post-Dispatch theater critic Judith Newmark. The winner will be able to share the special night with three friends.
The Muny Karaoke competition will be held from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. The Great Pretender Karaoke & D.J. Co. will provide the music. The dates are:
• June 18 before "42nd St."
• June 28 before "Annie" (this one is just for contestants 18 or younger, with parental consent)
• July 6 before "Meet Me in St. Louis"
