To enter the contest, you must be a mother who plans to breastfeed, is breastfeeding or has breastfed. Essays will be judged by reporters and editors at the Post-Dispatch/STLtoday.com and St. John’s Mercy Medical Center lactation consultants. Finalists' essays will then be published on stltoday.com and the public will be allowed to vote online to determine the winners.
All entries must be submitted using the online form at stltoday.com. One valid entry and/or vote per entrant. End Users who create multiple e-mail accounts to submit entry and/or vote may have the submission and/or vote(s) removed. End User agrees to ensure that any content or information he/she provides will at all times be accurate, complete and not misleading.
Winners will be notified by email and/or telephone. All results posted are unofficial until winners respond to notification. If a winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment, an alternate winner will be selected. If STLtoday.com cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
Automated voting of any kind is not allowed. Detection of said automated voting will lead to votes being voided.
All entries become the property of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and St. John’s Mercy Health Care (Sponsors). The winner agrees to participate in coverage of the results of the essay contest in the Post-Dispatch and STLtoday.com, and St. John’s Mercy Health Care community publications. Entrants further grant to STLtoday.com the right to use and publish their proper name and state online and in print, or any other media, in connection with the Contest.
Sponsors reserve the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
The Celebration of Breastfeeding essay contest is open to mothers and mothers-to-be of all ages who reside in Missouri and Illinois. Missouri: Missouri - Lincoln, St. Charles, St. Louis, St. Louis City, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Warren, Marion, Monroe, Pike, Ralls and Shelby. Illinois - Calhoun, Effingham, Fayette, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Bond, Clinton, St. Clair, and Monroe. No purchase is necessary to enter.
Participants are able to submit one essay by visiting stltoday.com/breastfeeding from July 19 to August 7. The essay committee will choose the top 15 essays as finalists. The public will then be invited to choose their favorite essay by voting between August 11 – 21. Individuals may vote once per day. The essay winner will be announced on Monday, August 25.
Entry must be complete and accurate to be considered eligible. Essays must not exceed 300 words. All essays must include the participants first and last name, telephone number and e-mail address. The Sponsors reserve the right to reject improperly marked entry forms for any reason. All winner selection procedures will be conducted by the Sponsors, whose decisions are final with respect to all aspects of the contest.
The Sponsors and/or its agents or assigns are not responsible for late, lost, damaged, destroyed or misdirected entries, or for miscommunications, misdirected transmissions, or any other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical or electronic. The Sponsors and UPICKEM are not responsible for Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, phone line failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God.
All entries become the exclusive property of the Sponsors. The Contest and all of the related pages, contents and code are copyright, UPICKEM, Inc., and/or the Sponsors. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
This contest is void wherever restricted or prohibited by state or local laws.
ELIGIBILITY-- Employees of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, LLC, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, advertising agencies, and members of their family are not eligible to enter.
Contestants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the judging organization, which are final on all matters pertaining to this contest. The return of any prize/prizes notification as undelivered may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.
By entering, contestants release and hold harmless the Sponsors, as well as any directors, officers or employees of these organizations from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with this contest.
By submitting an essay, entrants consent to the collection, processing and use of the information contained in the entry form by the Sponsors and for any purpose they see fit, including the use of this information for marketing purposes by the Sponsors or third party companies, and may be provided to third party companies at the sole discretion of the Sponsors. Winners allow the Sponsors the right to use their name and or likeness for promotional purposes without further compensation. The Sponsors reserve the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information on contestants obtained through the contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law.
If for any reason the contest is not capable of being conducted as planned, including any causes beyond the control of the administrators of the contest, the Sponsors reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to cancel, modify, suspend or terminate the contest without notice to the entrants.
PRIZES – The essay writer with the most votes will receive her choice of either a Medela Pump ‘n Style Advanced electric breast pump (value $289) courtesy of St. John’s Mercy Pharmacy or a family portrait package (value $200), courtesy of Bella Baby Photography. First runner up receives either a breast pump or portrait package. Second runner up receives a nursing camisole courtesy of 9 Months in Style. Third runner up receives a one hour lactation consultation with a certified St. John’s Mercy lactation consultant.
Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their officers, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize.
Each winner is responsible for all federal, state and local taxes and will be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Sponsor reserves the right to withhold prizes until completed form W-9 is received.
This contest is not intended for gambling. If it is determined that a contestant is using the contest for gambling purposes they will be disqualified and reported to authorities.
STLtoday.com reserves the right to change the rules at any time.
